The Amistad Caribbean Arts Camp Fundraiser event went virtual in 2020 and we would like your help to go virtual again in 2021. Chris and Monika Chapman invited everyone to join us for an entertaining evening of Caribbean music with Sammy Deleon y Su Orchesta featuring Jackie Warren (eight-piece ensemble), dance performances by Caribbean Conexion Cle, and Culture video presentations to celebrate the successful third season of the Amistad Caribbean Arts Camp. The Amistad Arts Camp Fundraiser went virtual in 2020! Please check out our new videos on YouTube or Vimeo. This summer we recorded remotely with our students and staff the following songs:
- CHE CHE COLE | Composed by Willie Colon based on a children’s song from West Africa.
- ST. THOMAS | Composed by Sonny Rollins based on a British lullaby sung in the Virgin Islands
- MARY ANN | a famous calypso composed in Trinidad in 1945 by Roaring Lion.

Students will perform at the Hispanic Heritage Month Festival at this Latino Arts & Culture Center.

Students performed at the opening concert for the Rubber City Jazz Fest. They performed with the Akron students of Open Tone music as well as two songs from their own repertoire.

Students performed a thirty-minute set in this festival that takes place in the same neighborhood as the camp. Directly after their performance, they were able to take salsa lessons from Rosa Cruz the 2019 camp’s dance instructor.

Students performed as an opening act to the Sammy DeLeon Orchestra. Sammy DeLeon sat in on timbales, but it was the students who really got the crowd excited. Many people said they had not seen such a good reception from any other musical group at this festival.

ACAC Students will perform their full repertoire in this free public concert.

Come to enjoy our final performance at Luiz Munoz Marin Middle School. Our students and staff will perform live Afro-Cuban music featuring songs taught during our 2019 Amistad Caribbean Arts Camp. If you can’t watch our show on Friday, we will be performing at BOP STOP at The Music Settlement tonight, at 7:00 PM.
