WHAT OUR STUDENTS SAY…
"I like the Amistad Caribbean Arts Camp. It's a place where you can come and learn about different types of music. The teachers here are very helpful. This camp is a great way to do what you like throughout the summer. There are so many things I've learned about the camp. This camp isn't just a group of random people it’s our family" - Dalma Cintron, ACAC Trombone Student
"The Amistad Caribbean Arts Camp has taught me about the history and influences of African culture. This information has become very relevant when considering the BLM movement, as the true history of slavery has been something omitted from the telling, and it is important that we strive to teach the truth to the next generation." - Christopher Gerace, ACAC Trumpet Intern
“What I like about the Amistad Caribbean Arts Camp is that I learned to dance with help from Lali & Muni. The music sectional rehearsals helped us to play our instruments and learn new songs. I also enjoyed the mask-making class. The dance class was pretty hard, but still fun. Everything is great and awesome and I really love it.” - Christopher Reyes, ACAC Clarinet Student
"The ACAC is so much fun! I love everything we do, but my three favorites have to be piano, mask making, and lastly, is dance class. I love piano class mostly because Ms. Jackie Warren has taught me so much that I didn't know. She is so helpful and patient. I really liked how supportive the teachers were. This camp was amazing!!! I am so thankful to be a part of this. I hope next time we can be together." - Gabriella Gross, ACAC Piano Student
"This is my first year in a camp and I love it! I am learning about a culture I've never taken a second look at. It is helping me to see that other cultures show their heritage with pride. I love the people in the camp even though I can't be with them face to face, I can't wait for next year so I can go through all this amazingness all over again." - Gabriel Mireles, ACAC Trombone Student
"The Amistad Caribbean Arts Camp is such a rare opportunity that I am so fortunate to have been a part of. Not only are the teachers enthusiastic about the material we cover, but they also work to make the learning enjoyable for students of all ages. I can not think of a better way to spend my summer than expanding my knowledge and playing an instrument that I love!" - Alana Thigpen, ACAC Saxophone Student
“The Amistad Caribbean Arts Camp has helped me to dive deeper into the Caribbean culture, dance, and music and to learn about how African Diaspora has impacted North and South American and Caribbean culture. The camp has also allowed me the opportunity to work with a set of very talented music professionals and very bright students on our diverse and fun repertoire.” - Trinity Marsh, ACAC Trombone Intern
"One of the main aspects that really helps a camp work is a sense of community. I've been very impressed as well as excited to see the social growth this camp has created. The energetic leaders and interesting information proved an exception to the difficult experience I expected. Needless to say, I love being a part of the ACAC, and can't wait to see the products that this exciting experience creates!" - Joey Daso, ACAC Percussion Intern
